Two of the STOPSuicides UK campaigners were featured in today’s report by the BBC. We recognise exactly the sort of triggers that can prompt people into taking their own lives. The ‘Paula Vennells’ narrative that suicide is complex (after the suicide of sub postmaster Martin Griffiths) is the defensive posture created by those who create the triggers.

Today’s report encompasses some of the inspiration for the STOPS Campaign Group, for the survivors fully understand that their may indeed be a host of the standard issues such as divorce and separation, parental alienation, alcohol and drugs to name a few, but all it took for James Anderson to jump out of his bedroom window, was a simple CMS SMS DEMAND TEXT, sent at a bad time during one weekend when he was vulnerable. Only his plastic garden chair saved him.

The Child Maintenance Service (CMS) released Paying Parents mortality rates shows it could be responsible for an estimated 4600 early graves in just 5 years. Our mission is to prove causation by maladministration, computational cascading of errors and miscalculations by poorly designed and poorly integrated IT services.

Systems that trigger those most vulnerable into health crisis and suicide.

As Viscount Younger of Leckie when in charge of overseeing the CMS stated in Parliament on 18th January 2023

“Could I just say that being new into the department, I am already aware, having seen some correspondence, that I’ve had to sort of look at and sign off, on some absolutely tragic cases and I think it’s absolutely appalling that this can, or cases can lead to people taking their own lives. I mean that’s absolutely dreadful and we must look at all ways in which we can avoid that or have systems, processes which do not lead to that…”

We can report STOPS has requested his briefing but DWP are refusing to release it, stating it is not in the Public Interest to disclose it as this may inhibit civil servants being transparent with information to Ministers of the Crown.

The ICO are currently investigating this.
